Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
The most sacred temple in Northern Thailand, perched on a mountain overlooking the city.
Location: 15km west of city, up the mountain Hours: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Admission: ฿30 Getting There: Songthaew from Old City (฿40-60) Highlights:
- 306 steps up (or take the cable car)
- Golden chedi with Buddha relics
- Panoramic city views
- Active worship site
Tips:
- Go early morning for fewer crowds
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Mornings often have better views (less haze)
Wat Chedi Luang
Home to a massive ancient chedi in the heart of Old City.
Location: Old City center Hours: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Admission: Free (donation appreciated) Highlights:
- 600-year-old partially ruined chedi
- City pillar shrine
- Monk chat program
- Beautiful at night when lit up

- Monk Chat: Daily 9 AM - 6 PM
- Great for understanding Buddhism

Wat Phra Singh
Chiang Mai's most revered temple with beautiful Lanna architecture.

Wat Suan Dok

Wat Umong
Ancient forest temple with meditation tunnels.

- Great for meditation
- Less touristy
Wat Sri Suphan (Silver Temple)
Stunning temple covered entirely in silver.

- Intricate silver decorations
- Silversmith demonstrations
- Saturday Walking Street nearby
Note: Women cannot enter main building
Temple Etiquette
- Remove shoes before entering buildings
- Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered)
- Don't point feet at Buddha images
- Keep voice low
- Ask permission before photographing monks
- Don't touch monks (especially important for women)
